Foundations of

3D Printing

3D printing kind of sounds like magic, doesn’t it? It seems like a complex and difficult skill completely out of the grasp of us mere mortals. Luckily, that all couldn’t be any less true! 3D printing is an intuitive and fun skill to pick up, and we’ll help your student do it.

What you’ll accomplish:

  • 1. Student will explore the basics of CAD (Computer Assisted Design) through guided practice and engaging assignments where they’ll print their first designs.

  • 2. Next, students will dive into the software (referred to as a “slicer”) that controls and instructs 3D printers.

  • 3. As students gains proficiency and confidence, they’ll begin a series of assignments design to develop problem solving and critical thinking 3D modeling skills, printing as they go along.

  • 4. During this process, students will slowly be introduced to an actual 3D printer, where they can put together their skills for the first time and print some more awesome stuff!

  • 5. Armed with the knowledge of CAD, slicing software, and 3D printers, and our, students embark on a self guided final project showing off all of their creativity and new skills.

  • 6. To wrap up, we’ll advise students of some exciting possible next steps in their 3D printing path. The course may be coming to a close, but their learning journey has just begun!
